Are We There Yet?
Often I hear this remark from my kids while we were on
a trip “are we there yet”? As soon as I heard that kind of remark, I would then
explain to them that we were not there yet which I thought that’s the end of
the story. Is that the case though? I guess not since not long after that the
kids would make the same remark again and again and again. I wonder if I have
explained it wrongly; Or is it just our nature of wanting to reach the
destination as soon as possible especially if we know where we are heading is
an exciting destination?
In the book of Revelation, the apostle John was given a revelation of what has taken or will take place in the end time. Towards the final chapter, he saw “a new heaven and a new earth” which replaced the old – “the first earth had passed away” and God will dwell with His people and He will be their God (Rev. 21:3). Furthermore, God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away – He is making all things new (Rev. 21:4, 5).
What a remarkable ending! I cannot wait until such a time, to be in that place, to be with the Creator Himself, words cannot describe enough what an amazing place it will be. “Are we there yet?” that’s the question I often ask, the same question as what my kids were asking while we were on a trip. When will you return Lord Jesus? Are we there yet? “With the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief …” (2 Peter 3:8-10). No one knows when Jesus will return again, no one knows when the “D-day” will arrive. I have not reached the final destination. Yet, I am confident by faith in Jesus, I will surely arrive at that final check point one day, to enjoy “the new heaven and the new earth” and most importantly to be upon His presence eternally.
For now, the road to “the new heaven and the new earth” is still opened and God is patiently waiting for you to join Him through repentance and believing in His and only Son, Jesus – “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6).
His words are trustworthy and true (Rev. 21:5).
