The Superhero

Guess Superhero
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16 ESV)

Over recent times, there have been so many superheroes movies wandering around. I am referring to those that were made of the comic books such as Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Spiderman, Hulk, X-Men, Wolverine, and many more which I may have missed or not aware of. I must say that I do enjoy watching some of these superheroes movies. With the advancement of technology and special effects, these superheroes movies were amazing and made “alive” of those comic books which may not be possible in the past or even if they were made the technology would not be as good as today.

After watching many of these superheroes movies, I cannot stop wondering of how many cities, buildings, cars, roads, houses and many more that have been destroyed and should be rebuilt again after that? Aren’t they supposed to protect the world and the people in it? Furthermore, how come the opponents just keep coming and never end despite of so many superheroes? Are the superheroes not able to finish them once for all? We are talking these superheroes who have mighty powers. It just doesn’t make sense, I am just giggling. Oh, I forgot, this is only a movie and they have to keep making it while it is still popular as this is a good source of revenue, a huge one.

Despite of so many superheroes stories, there is one common theme that is played and re-played again and again and that is they fight the bad guys or the dark evil wicked opponents. It is the good guys versus the bad guys. To me, it reflects of what’s going on in the world, the theme of the good guys versus the bad guys has always been the reality. We live in a fallen world, sin through the devil managed to penetrate to the supposed to be good design and causing a havoc to the good orderly design created by God. Since then. the world is groaning like a woman giving birth, crying out loud longing for a saviour, a superhero to save the day and defeat the devil once for all.

That wish came through, the grand designer of this universe, God, did not sit around and doing nothing. He sent his true superhero, Jesus, to defeat the evil one once for all and to save the day, to restore the world that he has created in the first place for eternity. This true superhero was low profile and did not use any kind of weapons, engines, technology, gadgets in defeating the ultimate enemy, the evil one. Instead, he defeated the evil one once for all by dying on the cross to be ransomed for many – to redeem the sin of many in the most humiliating and horrific way, becoming the true living sacrifice and the ultimate power comes when he rose again on the third day by his own power, God’s power that no mankind, no angels have such power. This is a true story, not a movie and it took place about 2000 years ago, before you and I were born.

Victory belongs to those who believe in this true superhero, Jesus, the broken relationship with God has been restored through Jesus and those who believe in him are made righteous in front of the true living God - eternity to be with the true living God is at hand. But the saga of this groaning world will continue for the time being, the devil is already defeated once for all but still prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour, so be watchful (1 Peter 5:8). The mission of the devil as we speak is not to defeat God, he knows he cannot defeat the grand designer, his mission is to drag down as many people as he can down with him before the final consummation of this world takes place when the true superhero, Jesus, returns for the second time to settle the matter for eternity.

That’s the true superhero that the world is waiting eagerly and for you who still have the chance, run to him while you still can before everything is too late.
