Purpose

Purpose
"So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air." (1 Corinthians 9:26 ESV)

What is your aim or purpose in life? Now,  I know that is a huge question to answer and can be a difficult one. Many of us have not even given such a thought let alone answering it. We are just "doing life" daily and see where it will lead us. What do you think of that approach?

Can you imagine how frustrated it will be when for example you are driving a car and not knowing your direction or where you are going, you will be just spending your time and energy driving round and round with no final destination in an endless loop. In fact, it is kind of scary to be in that situation.

In his letter to the Corinthians, the apostle Paul made it very clear that he is not running aimlessly. His aim on what he was doing is very clear that is no other than for the sake of the gospel - to live out the gospel with full discipline so that people can see the authenticity of his preaching - "walk the talk", which in the end he looks forward to receive the "eternal" reward that is imperishable. Indeed, this has been Paul's trademark, he always stays focus with the work of the gospel as to reflect the work on the cross.

Paul's example should be an encouragement to all believers of Jesus. As Christians, we cannot just be doing things aimlessly, we need to be start thinking the purpose behind of all the things that we do. In fact, our true purpose should not be different to Paul's purpose. I am not saying that all Christians must become like Paul, but the fundamental purpose of being Christs' followers should not differ and should be clear enough that is to live out the gospel sincerely and authentically with the awaiting heavenly prize that is imperishable - "walk the talk". What had been done on the cross through Jesus must penetrate into each Christian's soul!

So back to the question at the start, what will your life purpose be especially as a Christian?
